Aging comes with some consequences most of us would be happy to do without. Our body stops producing a lot of things like it did when we were younger, including growth hormones. The result is skin problems, more body fat, less muscle mass, and more. At Biotech Cosmetic Surgery & Medical Spa in Aventura, FL, we can help you fight back with life-transforming Sermorelin therapy.
What is Sermorelin?
Sermorelin is what is known as a growth hormone-releasing hormone analog, or GHRH. This is simply a technical way of saying it stimulates the body to produce and secret growth hormones on its own. We can also describe GHRH as a kind of peptide made of amino acids, and the main function of peptides in the body is usually to signal or control some cellular function. In this case, GHRH signals to your body to make more growth hormone.
When Should I Take Sermorelin Therapy?
Signs and Symptoms
This potent anti-aging protocol could be the right choice if you’re starting to feel certain symptoms. These can come on gradually, but eventually, you’ll notice them. When you’re in your 30s, you may notice:
- Slight decline in energy
- A few extra pounds around the middle
- Slight decrease in sex drive
- Gradual hair thinning
- Early signs of wrinkles and lines
- More exercise required to keep up muscle strength
By the time we reach our 40s, most of us are noticing even greater changes that could indicate it’s time to do something. We experience all the signs and symptoms listed above but in greater amounts. For example, hair thinning can become real hair loss, and extra exercise may not be enough to produce the amount of muscle growth we need. You may also notice:
- A need for reading glasses
- Stiffness and joint pain
- Difficulty sleeping
- Increased forgetfulness
As you can imagine, these issues only become more pronounced as you enter your 50s and then 60s. Most of us dismiss them as the natural signs of aging, but with GHRH therapy, there’s a way to fight back.
Blood Tests
The best way to know for certain if it’s time for this anti-aging therapy is to come see us. We can help you evaluate your symptoms and then start with a blood test to precisely measure your levels of HGH. This will help us know if it’s time for treatment and exactly how much GHRH is right for you.
Why Is GHRH Important?
Our Need for Human Growth Hormone
At around the age of 30, we begin producing a lot less human growth hormone (HGH). Every ten years or so from that age, we have about 14% less than the decade before. This is unfortunate since growth hormone is absolutely key to many bodily functions, including cellular repair, metabolism control, and body composition: i.e., how our body will decide to grow and prioritize fat versus muscle in any area.
Specifically, our levels of HGH are crucial to:
- Boosting muscle growth and strength
- Allowing for strong exercise performance
- Helping us repair and recover from injuries
- Keeping off fat
The Effects of Loss
We don’t yet know for certain which came first when it comes to HGH: the chicken or the egg. In other words, is the loss of HGH a consequence of aging or the cause of it? In some ways, though, it doesn’t matter. This drop always happens unless we take proactive steps to stop it. As it does, we can expect:
- Fatigue and exhaustion
- Development of liver spots, lines, and wrinkles
- Changes to hair texture
- Reduced libido and sexual function
- Weight gain
- Muscle mass loss
- Increased susceptibility to heart disease and osteoporosis
Going the Back Way
We’ve known about the importance of HGH for a while now, and the first attempts to treat its loss seemed simple: give people more HGH directly. Unfortunately, this doesn’t work. A synthetic version of HGH was developed in 1985, and it’s still possible to find it advertised in various creams and pills offered for anti-aging, but using it causes a lot of unwanted side effects.
These include nerve and joint pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, high cholesterol levels, swelling and edema, and numbness of the skin. It can also raise the risk of diabetes and cancer. While it’s still used to treat certain conditions, like Prader-Willi syndrome, it’s not a reliable or safe anti-aging treatment.
On the other hand, Sermorelin is. This GHRH therapy doesn’t directly inject a synthetic version of HGH into the body. Instead, it is simply an amino acid that your pituitary gland will use to make its own HGH. The results are vastly superior in three important ways:
It Uses Your Own HGH
Instead of a synthetic version, your body has access to the natural HGH it already knows how to use. While synthetic HGH and human HGH may look identical in the lab, they simply don’t function identically within the body.
It Uses Your Own Pathways
Your body normally receives HGH via certain established pathways that start from the pituitary gland. When a synthetic version is injected directly, you bypass these natural pathways, causing unexpected results. This makes treatment with GHRH much more desirable since your body will follow all the natural pathways to produce and use HGH.
It Never Makes Too Much
When you supplement with HGH directly, it’s always hard to say how much is too much. When you do supplement with too much, you can end up with side effects like tumor growth. When you have your pituitary gland produce the HGH, however, it will not have this problem. It knows what you need and will naturally regulate itself to no more than “normal” or more youthful levels.
What Changes Will I Notice?
In the First Weeks
GHRH therapy produces natural changes since it’s naturally stimulating your body to do things on its own. One of the first signs you’ll likely notice, and within the first few weeks, is better sleep. It becomes easier to fall and stay asleep, and you feel more refreshed on waking.
The next changes most people notice are a better mood and slowly increasing energy levels. Part of this is due to better sleep, and part to metabolic changes going on because of increased HGH.
In the First Months
At three to six months in your GHRH therapy, you’ll start to notice more significant changes. These usually include a leaner physique, more muscle tone, and better texture to the skin. You will likely find yourself thinking more clearly, feeling less inclined to snack on junk foods, and having more energy to keep up a stronger regular workout routine.
How Long Do I Take GHRH Therapy?
At our clinic, we offer one-month, three-month, and longer rounds of treatment. For most people, three to six months is usually the best way to get the maximum benefit. This is because you’re provoking changes at the body’s cellular level and doing them naturally. The body needs time to adjust and then time to conduct serious repairs.
While changes don’t happen at the same speed as direct HGH therapy, they are much more natural and allow you to avoid all the side effects of HGH therapy.
Combining Treatments for Even Better Effects
For some patients, we may recommend combining your GHRH therapy with hormone therapy. As we age, our HGH levels drop, but that’s not the only hormone that tends to decline. In men, testosterone can also drop, exacerbating all the symptoms of low HGH. When you combine GHRH therapy with testosterone therapy, the results can be even more effective.
How Long Can I Stay on GHRH Therapy?
Some patients can go off after just three months and continue to feel all the benefits for quite a while. Others will need to go six months or a year before their HGH production is sufficiently stimulated. We also have patients who have continued to use GHRH therapy for many years and have suffered no unwanted side effects.
How Can I Support My GHRH Therapy?
While there’s no natural way to boost the production of HGH to the same levels that GHRH therapy can, you can help the process along and enhance the benefits with certain lifestyle choices.
Lose Body Fat
Belly fat and HGH are inversely related. The more belly fat, the lower the HGH levels. Three times the belly fat means, on average, half the HGH. Those with the most abdominal fat usually have impaired HGH production. The amount of fat you carry, and particularly around the abdomen, is especially tied to HGH production in men, but losing weight boosts production in both sexes.
At Biotech Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Center, we offer a range of treatments that can help you with weight loss, including HCG weight loss, lipotropics, and IV nutritional support. Come talk to us about how we can help.
Don’t Eat Before Bed
Studies show that your body naturally produces the most HGH at night, but whenever there’s a lot of insulin in the bloodstream, HGH production is blocked. By avoiding food, and particularly high-protein or high-carb meals and snacks, two to three hours before bed, you give your body the chance to make the best use of GHRH therapy.
Consume Less Sugar
Insulin and HGH affect one another, and the higher the insulin levels, the lower your HGH levels will be. Any carbohydrate raises insulin levels, and refined grains and sugars are the worst offenders. Naturally, the occasional pastry or soda will not have a big impact on your HGH, but avoiding regularly indulgence, and particularly within a few hours of bed, will be a huge boost to your HGH production. In addition, consuming less sugar will help with your weight loss goals and overall health.
Try High-Intensity Exercise
Be sure to talk to your general physician before you start any new exercise routine, but assuming you’re healthy enough to start, high-intensity exercise increases HGH more than any other type, though all exercise helps some.
High-intensity exercise simply refers to exercising for a shorter amount of time, but at maximum or near-maximum effort. This can be done by sprinting, interval training, weight training, or whatever type of exercise you prefer. Studies show this type of exercise maximizes fat loss, but also that it causes a sharp spike in HGH. This spike is temporary, but exercising regularly will boost your GHRH therapy and make it even more effective.
