How Soon Will Botox Start Working?
Within a Week
You should start noticing some positive changes within seven days of your treatment. Some patients can even notice their Botox working as quickly as 24 hours after their injection. By 10 to 14 days, your treatment should be reaching its full effect. Once you reach this point, you should be able to enjoy your full results for months to come.
Appointments Are Fast
Fast appointments make the benefit of quick results even better. Depending on your needs and the area you’d like to treat, your appointment may be finished in as little as 10 to 15 minutes. With such a minimal time investment, that leaves you plenty of time to get back to the rest of your busy day.
For three months, most patients can enjoy the full effect of their treatment. Many patients can go four to six months before they feel like it’s time for a touch-up appointment. The timeline can vary slightly between different people. How many units you receive, the type of wrinkles you’re treating, and your overall skin health can all play a role in the treatment’s longevity.
This is one reason we recommend visiting us for a consultation. We can talk about your goals and evaluate your skin. This will help us recommend the treatment we believe will be the best match for you, and give you more individualized answers about your timeline.
How It Works
The muscles under the skin rely on nerve signals to tell them when to contract. These repeated movements develop and exaggerate wrinkles over time.
We will carefully deliver your injection into the outer layer of your skin. The injection will “freeze” oncoming nerve signals to the treated area, so the targeted muscles will stay relaxed. As the muscles relax, the skin laying over them will smooth over as well.
Regularity May Help
If you want to encourage longevity in your results, you may want to consider coming in for regular appointments. This treatment allows your facial muscles to rest. Regular appointments can help the treated muscles relax more readily and effectively since the muscles can grow more accustomed to this resting state.
Finding the right schedule can vary individually. Some patients start off by getting treatments every four months to stay on top of their results. Moving forward, these patients may eventually begin to spread out their appointments a little more if they find their muscles have learned to stay relaxed for longer.
A Trusted Name
Decades of use have made Botox a household name. Not only is it used for cosmetic treatments, but it has various medical uses as well. Treating excessive sweat glands, muscle spasms or stiffness, and migraines are just a few examples of how it’s been put to work. Clostridium botulinum type A is the neurotoxin used to make this treatment. This neurotoxin is put through a highly regulated refinement process to make sure it can be safely used.
With extensive testing and studies dedicated to it, you can rest easy knowing that this treatment is considered very trustworthy. In addition, we have the education and experience to understand, handle, and administer your treatment. That said, if you have any concerns about it at all, we would be more than happy to discuss them with you.
Dysport and Xeomin are also neuromodulators, so they work very similarly to Botox. All three treatments are made from a purified strain of the botulinum toxin, and all three can have slightly different benefits.
Since all of these treatments are considered effective and safe, it can be challenging for patients to decide which one is the best choice. We’d be happy to help you better understand the subtle differences during your evaluation.
What Wrinkles Will It Treat?
1. Wrinkles Caused by Movement
We use our expressions to communicate with each other. Many times, we tend to even make expressions subconsciously when we’re alone.
Some expressions cause lines to appear around the eyes, nose, and forehead. These are known as dynamic lines. Initially, these lines will appear when you make an expression and disappear afterward. Over time, dynamic lines can become deeper and permanent. This treatment is a great choice for treating dynamic lines, whether they’re mild or severe.
2. Wrinkles on the Forehead
Horizontal lines across the forehead can be dramatically improved with this treatment. Our eyebrows are heavily used to make expressions, which can cause forehead lines to develop early on. Regardless of how fine or severe the wrinkles are, this treatment is a great tool to help.
3. Laugh Lines and Crow’s Feet
Squinting or smiling can exaggerate the lines known as either laugh lines or crow’s feet. They can curve up towards the forehead, down to the cheeks, or straight out from the corners of each eye. With gentle treatment, these lines can be smoothed over to improve their appearance.
4. Frown and “11” Lines
If you have a single or double vertical line between your eyebrows, you could have what is known as a frown line, or “11 lines.” Furrowing your brow or squinting can make these lines more noticeable, but they also tend to deepen over time.
These are very popular lines to treat. Relaxing the furrow between your brows can help open up and soften your resting expression.
Who Is a Good Candidate?
We believe it’s important to focus on what’s best for you. While this treatment can be a great option for patients struggling with moderate to severe wrinkles, it also can be a great preventative. Many patients like to try to protect their skin by treating it before it has the chance to form permanent wrinkles. While this can’t prevent wrinkles altogether, it can certainly help delay them or manage their severity as you age.
There’s nothing wrong with waiting either; it’s really all about your unique needs. If you want to treat preventatively, “freezing” your muscles can help slow the progression of dynamic wrinkles. If you already have wrinkles and you want to improve their appearance, you can do that too. Patients of almost any age, as long as they’re adults, can all enjoy the benefits of boosting their confidence and improving their lines and wrinkles.
Cosmetic treatments aren’t just for women. Everyone wants to feel their best. With our treatments, we can help you fight back against the toll of time and look as young as you feel. Patients of any gender can enjoy this treatment and all the benefits it has to offer.
If you’re dealing with a loss of volume in your face, sun damage, or laxity due to gravity, you may want to consider some of our dermal filler options. Dermal fillers can be combined with other treatments, or used on their own.
What Other Treatments Are Available?
Dermal Fillers and More
Some of our treatments include chemical peels, microneedling, and various dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are injected much like Botox, but they work a little differently. They’re used to fill in folds and hollows throughout the skin, rather than blocking nerve signals.
Many dermal fillers are also able to boost collagen, which can support long-lasting results and benefit the appearance and health of the skin. When used together, Botox and dermal fillers can have a “liquid facelift” effect. This combination can smooth out wrinkles and fill out your face at the same time.
