You won the battle of the bulge. You’re a Champion, a Biggest Loser.
You’ve lost the weight that has been plaguing you for however long. One small annoyance persists:
You still have that flabby belly (or thighs, or buttocks) that testifies to your victory.
Our clients here at Biotech Center tend to be the determined type. After all, one doesn’t seek out a med spa and meet regularly with anti-aging specialists and doctors if one isn’t serious about staying youthful and healthy. Achieving weight loss and maintaining an optimal weight are major accomplishments. But there is one thing they can’t control. After the pounds come off, many folks still have an abundance of fat cells in the area of the body where the excess weight once resided.
At Biotech Cosmetic Surgery center, we are in the business of solving problems. So when Marlene came to see us, just a few months after delivering her beautiful baby boy, she appealed to us for help. « Look at this! » she said, gesturing towards the spare tire that spilled over her belt. « I’m down to my pre-pregnancy weight and I still have baby fat! »
So we told her about liposuction.
Liposuction in the Miami Clinic
Liposuction is a non-surgical procedure that can be performed right here in our North Miami clinic. It involves a slender tube, called a cannula, that suctions fat cells from a targeted area. Using this technique, we are able to remove fat cells from the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, legs, upper arms or back. (Another procedure called mini-liposuction is available for more delicate areas such as the jawline or hands.)
Liposuction is not a substitute for weight loss. Rather, it improves the bodily figure or silhouette by removing fat deposits from under the skin.
Note: liposuction is not meant to treat cellulite.
Liposuction for Aesthetic Reasons
What happens if the patient regains his or weight after liposuction? With a small weight gain, the remaining fat cells simple expand. New fat cells can develop if someone gains a significant amount of weight.
This is why we recommend liposuction for cases, like Marlene’s, where fat cells remain after the weight has stabilized. Patients who have lost weight and kept it off; women who’ve recently given birth and especially birth by c-section; patients with an excess of superficial fat that has gradually accumulated over the years . . . could be candidates.
Typically, about six pounds of fat are removed during liposuction. If the patient would like to have a greater amount of fat removed, we recommend that he or she schedule several sessions, three to four weeks apart.
Skin Tightening with J-Plasma
If you have undergone a liposuction procedure, then you have likely experienced sagging skin post procedure that is a result of stretched skin from excess fat. Most of the time a tummy tuck is prescribed to tighten the skin by surgically removing a portion of it, leaving an unsightly scar behind.
The latest alternative to tummy tuck is J-Plasma™. J-Plasma skin tightening is a minimally invasive procedure that uses subdermal cold plasma energy to instantly tighten and rejuvenate anywhere on the face and body.
There are no incisions required and the procedure provides results that are comparable to any tummy tuck.
Mini-Liposuction Is More Precise
Liposuction is recommended for the macro areas such as the buttocks in women or the site of a former beer belly on a man. For treating areas that hoard smaller deposits of fat, such as under the chin or just below the armpit, there is mini-lipo.
Mini-lipo is the baby sister of liposuction.
Mini-liposuction uses the same technique and same procedure, but the tools are more precise, allowing us to target very specific areas of the body.
Mini-lipo is for men and women who are pleased with the general body profile but still annoyed by fatty or flabby pouches on the backs of the hands, the chin line, knees, or upper chest.
Mini-lipo is also mini-invasive, so you can return to your daily routine with no long recovery period.
